We all know that when it comes to helping a newborns immunity breast is best, and there are many reasons for that.
Immunoglobulins, lactoferrin, human milk oligosaccharides (for your gut microbiome), I could go on but you get the idea.
But one other thing you might not have heard of is monolaurin.
It is a medium chain triglyceride, derived from lauric acid and it has some powerful immune properties.
It has been shown in vitro and in vivo to help with the following bacteria and fungal issues:
Plus the newly popular viruses:
As we discussed a few weeks ago, Epstein-Barr virus is associated with lots of ongoing health issues and we may also have some issues with “long covid” (I have a few of these clinically I am looking at).
But how do viruses cause such havoc in the long term?
Disclaimer alert !! I am no virologist so please forgive any simplistic interpretation of a very complex situation. But some of the ability of the virus to get into our cells and also to evade detection are because some of them have a fatty envelope used to move into our cells via the phospholipid bilayer of our cell membrane.
The fatty envelope also stops out immune system recognising the genetic material of the virus which is hidden inside, thus stops us attacking it.
Monolaurin can bind to the fatty envelope and break it apart, stopping the virus entering our cells and making it vulnerable to our immune system.
Check out the quote from these studies
They even have some research on corona viruses.
There are even studies was conducted using human breastmilk showing antiviral properties.
Now there is definitely a lack of good human clinical studies, but given it is found in breastmilk I suspect that mother nature and evolution know best.
So can be leverage modern science and use the lauric acid in coconuts to make monolaurin for our health?
For me, I have used it personally with good effect and clinically also with good effect.
I am starting to trial it on patients with long term viral issue like herpes and EBV.
So unless you have a ready supply of breast milk……
Then I suggest you get some Lauricidin in stock ready for the winter flu and cold season, and maybe even for COVID-19?
ACTIONS TO TAKE:
– Grab a tub of Lauricidin from Amrita nutrition (remember to register as a practitioner) or you can pay retail on amazon (have a look at the reviews)
