Quick shout out to everyone that attended the evolution of Chiropractic seminar in Dennington near Sheffield last weekend.

We had an incredible group of chiropractors ready to learn in small group setting with three different speakers but all talking from the same hymn sheet. 

It was a truly excellent weekend and we’re looking forward to doing it again and again.

In the past I have talked alot about HISTAMINE

This is a misunderstood molecule and histamine overload/intolerance issues are wildly underdiagnosed. 

Here we talked about histamine overload in hypermobile/EDS patients, which is incredibly common.

Today we are going to work histamine patients with a two pronged treatment. 

Remember with histamine, some patients are getting it by absorbing too much from food and from too many histamine producing bacteria.

In the context, usually of a leaky gut that is absorbing too much of everything. 

In the gut, histamine should be broken down by the enzyme  diamine oxidase or DAO to his friends. 

So, if you thought your patients had histamine overload you might see one, some or all of the symptoms below:

I am especially suspicious if they have significant reactions to food that are not consistent i.e. they get a huge reaction when they eat a food one day, but other times create zero response. 

Also, skin issues are often quite pronounced, as can be the mental health issues focused around anxiety and depression, where they simply cannot stop thinking and worrying. 

And asthma is also common and too cardio symptoms. 

So then, if you can get more DAO into your patient’s GI tract, they will break down histamine in the gut and get less into the blood stream and symptoms should improve, right? 

Well, let us once again always focus on results, not theory and test it. 

28 patients with diagnosed histamine intolerance, taking DAO before every meal for 4 weeks with a histamine questionnaire before and every 2 weeks, then a 4 week period with no DAO and the same questionnaire every 2 weeks for 4 weeks (a wash-out period to see if symptoms returned).

The results are amazing; After 4 weeks on DAO, a 66% reduction in overall symptoms. 

Note, here in the full results, you get a 45% drop after 2 weeks (in yellow visit 2), 66% at 4 weeks (in blue visit 3), and then they stop DAO and 4 weeks after stopping symptoms have risen up, so the benefit is now only 35% (in red visit 5).

One of the reasons why patients’ own DAO might be low is poor gut health, including a sustained low grade inflammation and leaky gut. 

DAO is made in the villi of the gut lining, thus inflamed, leaky gut lining = potentially low DAO and thus more histamine in the gut and thus blood. 

Note your own DAO is an ENZYME and so needs co-factors, specifically COPPER, B6 and VITAMIN C

Note, alcoholic drinks like wine, beer and champagne are not only high in histamine but also inhibit the breakdown of downstream metabolites. 

Also note the breakdown inside the cell is 100% done via METHYLATION from the enzyme HNMT. 

Thus, you need B12, folate, B6, and you should look at METHYL B HERO as a compliement to DAO. 

But back to BUTYRATE, not only will it help seal up your leaky gut, and create an internal positive feedback loop in your gut, to stop so much histamine leaking into your gut AND help grow good bacteria. 

It also just happens to be a MAST CELL STABILISER 🤯 (Mast cells are the ones that release histamine in case you didn’t know).

The body is a series of interconnected systems, so when we improve one area, it affects another.
